Beebo frequently asked questions

Beebo is a private home media server for Windows 10 and 11. You point it at the folders on your PC that already hold your movies, shows and home videos, and it builds a library you can watch on your phone, tablet, browser and TV. It does not come with movies or shows.

Beebo Entertainment is free to use at home. Away-from-home access is also free with a direct connection, automatic UPnP, or your own relay, at any resolution. Beebo Relay, Beebo's own relay servers, is an optional paid fallback for households where none of those work: about CA$3/month for 1080p or CA$5/month for 4K, priced by streaming quality rather than data used. No payment card required to get started.

Yes. Your library is served from your PC, so it has to be on, awake and running Beebo whenever someone watches, at home or away. See Fix connection problems for keeping it awake.

You do not need one to play your files, but posters, cast photos and descriptions come from TMDB, and Beebo asks you to use your own free key. It takes about three minutes; the steps are in Get started on Windows.

The Android app on phones and tablets, any web browser (including Safari on iPhone and iPad), the Android app on Android TV and Google TV, and casting to a Chromecast or Google TV. Roku, Samsung and LG TV apps are in development, and native Apple apps are planned; none has a date. See Playing on TVs and Beebo on your devices.

Not yet. iPhone and iPad watch in Safari, and you can add Beebo to the Home Screen. Offline downloads need the Android app.

A Linux desktop beta is coming with the next release, and a new headless server for Docker (NAS, Linux server, Raspberry Pi) is in beta but not yet a public download. See Run Beebo on a NAS or Linux server and the Linux page.

Open your free yourname.beebo.tv address, or type your home’s name in the Android app, and sign in. Beebo tries a direct connection to your PC first. Away from home: your three options explains direct, your own relay and Beebo Relay.

No. Your library and video don’t go to Beebo. Beebo’s servers handle sign-in and introductions, meaning finding your PC and setting up the connection. Some optional features talk to other services, and each is listed in Privacy in plain words. The privacy policy has the details.

Beebo is not a children’s app and has no child-themed screens. What it has is parental controls for the adult who runs the PC: age ratings, blocked genres and titles, a daily limit, bedtime hours and an owner PIN, all enforced by the PC. See Family and profiles.

Yes, on the Android app. Save a title while you are on Wi-Fi, then open Downloads to watch it with no signal. Downloads are not available in a browser.

No. There is no Live TV or DVR, and no plug-in ecosystem yet. Other media servers are ahead on those, and on how many devices they support. How Beebo compares says where.

Beebo for Windows checks for a newer version when it starts. You can also open Settings and click Check for updates. The Android app is updated by installing the newer file from the Get Beebo section over the old one, which keeps your settings. What’s new lists releases.

In Settings, use Backup & Restore. A backup contains none of your movie files. See Back up and restore.

Follow Delete your Beebo Entertainment account. Your movies and shows never leave your computer, so Beebo never had a copy.
