In development Status: everything on this page is built and passes our automated tests, but it is not in the Android download yet and nobody has tried it on a real phone, on a trail, at a campsite or in a car. We will change the label to Beta when a build with it is published and tested.
Trail Kit (on a hike)
Hike tracker
- A timer with trail stamps at set times and, if you allow it, step counts.
- Water and snack reminders shown on screen only, and rotating trail-leader and photographer roles.
- Step counting is off by default and uses the phone’s own step counter.
Sun and moon
- Sunrise, sunset, golden hour, first and last light, and a “be back before dark” planner.
- The moon’s phase and the next full and new moon.
- Worked out on the phone from a place you type in. No network call.
Nature bingo and Quiet ears
- A card matched to the season and the kind of place, made only of things to look for or listen for.
- A timed listening game. The microphone is not used and nothing is recorded.
Journal, lists and badges
- A page per walk that can also go into your Trip Journal.
- Tick-off lists: before you go, ten essentials, and care for the trail.
- Twelve keepsake badges with no streaks or ranking.
Campfire and camp games
Story Stew
A fill-in-the-blanks story game with twelve stories (cozy, silly and adventure). Players take turns adding a word, and nobody sees the story until the last blank is filled. It works on one phone or with guests on the campsite Wi-Fi.
Campfire Cards
Riddles, jokes and say-it-fast phrases in three age bands. The answer is only sent to phones when the leader taps “Show the answer”.
Night Sky Cards
Fourteen cards with a “find it tonight” tip, plus the Moon tonight. The moon is approximate and can be off by about half a day.
Rainy-day box and Camp Jobs
Thirty-three quick activities for the tent, the car and rest stops, and a fair chore wheel with a star chart. Names stay on the phone.
In the car
Riddle Road (Beebo Auto)
A voice game for passengers: riddles, jokes and say-it-fast phrases read aloud, using the same cards as the phone app. It is for passengers only and never for the driver.
What these are not, and what is not tested
- Trail Kit is not a map, not navigation and not a safety device, and it cannot call for help. Do not rely on it for safety.
- Nothing here has been tried on real phones, on a trail, in a phone browser at a campsite, or in a car. Text size, glare, screen readers and hotspot use are unknown.
- The riddles, jokes and stories are new and have not had an outside review.
- The moon phase is good to a few hours. There are no moonrise or moonset times and no star maps.
- These are written for families and groups of all ages. Parents or adults run them. Beebo is not a children’s product.
