White is at the bottom unless you choose to play Black.
How to play
- White moves first. Move a piece by selecting it, then selecting a marked destination. The board shows only legal moves.
- Check means your king is under attack. Checkmate wins; stalemate is a draw. The game also detects threefold repetition, fifty moves without a pawn move or capture, and positions without mating material.
- The pawn-promotion menu chooses the piece before a pawn reaches the far rank. Castling and en passant work when legal.
- The optional clock pauses while this page is hidden.
Keyboard: Tab to the board. Arrow keys move focus between squares; Enter or Space selects and moves. Escape cancels a selection. Focus and move targets have outlines as well as colour.
